The real story has emerged on what happened yesterday in Nibo, Awka South local government area of Anambra State of Nigeria. Nibo is a community in Awka South local government area of Anambra State. The Nibo community was hosting its new yam festival called “Onwa asaa” yesterday, 20th of October, 2024. When the event was on its boiling point, some unknown gunmen stormed the busiest part of the city where people gathered for merriment and began to shoot. Eyewitness account has it that they unknown gunmen came for a particular young man who was positioned in the midst of many at a liquor drinking spot. On sighting the presence of the gunmen, the young man took to his heels while bullets were rained on him. He escaped without being killed, but the people around him got hit by stray bullets meant for the escaping victim who was alleged to have been on the wanted list of the gunmen over cult-related misunderstanding, lingering years.
The recovered corpses of the victims of the sporadic shooting as at this moment have been nine. The nine victims were not part of the mission of the gunmen, but victims of fate.
The gunmen were reported leaving the vicinity unchallenged. According to a man who was around who doesn’t want his name imprint, the original victim was running while bullets were rained into his body which weren’t penetrating him. Clandestine opinions say that the gunmen had been tracking the intended victim for a long time without success, but decided to check on him knowing that he must return to witness the new yam festival of his community. On arriving the scene, he spotted them and made to heel away when they immediately started firing him not minding the crowd of spectators around the area.
Report on the gory event has it that security agents are already on the matter, pledging to get to its root and bring the perpetrators to judgement.
