The leadership crisis rocking the Eka-awoke community of Ikwo local government area of Ebonyi state is not far from having a basis on the fear of some political stakeholders in the community whom everyone knows they’re either uneducated or they’re half -educated having the highly educated class leading them in the community. This is manifest in their point of view wherein they have asked why a university lecturer should condescend as low as becoming a town union president instead of going for a bigger position. The same people expressing this archaic concern are those who want to exploit the community and keep it unproductive as it had always been before the coming of the new president, Dr Collins Irem.
This same set of people casting aspersions at the academic status of the persons leading the community are the ones who made a former local government chairman a village chairman in this same Eka-awoke. His leadership of Ezeke village has been next to nothing ever since he assumed office as chairman after his fruitless reign as chairman of Ikwo LGA.
In the new leadership structure of Eka-awoke which the enemies of progress are fighting has its president a senior university lecturer in the person of Dr Collins Irem. Just today, his deputy, Celestine Afiukwa was elevated to the status of a professor. He’s now Prof. Celestine Afiukwa. Which other community in Ebonyi state has its president a PhD holder, its vice president a professor, its secretary a Master’s degree holder and others in the committee graduates? Dazed by this scintillating new turn of events, the two political figures in Eka-awoke who have sworn never to be alive and have highly educated individuals leading the community have continued to fight a great thing such as this. One wonders why persons who call themselves political figures could express discontent over having educated persons leading them. Could it be that they themselves aren’t educated at all or what?
However, the good people of Eka-awoke have expressed delight over the promotion of the community’s vice president to the height of Professor. They are delighted because, the leadership of the community had been in the hands of individuals who knew nothing about modern leadership model. Having these individuals as leaders of the community has immediately repositioned the community just within the four months period they were elected and inaugurated. For this reason and more, the people of Eka-awoke have decided to be on the side of leadership that cares for the well-being of the community, rendering unprecedented services in the most of polite ways. The community wishes Prof. Celestine Afiukwa, the beloved vice president of the Eka-awoke Community Development Association the best of academic achievements as he sojourns and soars heights in his chosen field of human endeavours.
