Chief Barr Sunday Nwankwo invited me to his second swearing-in as Chairman of Ikwo LGA. Despite the political atmosphere, I attended to support an old friend. Here’s a recap of my visit and why it was purely a gesture of friendship.
Nwoba Chika Nwoba wrote on his Facebook page about his recent visit to Ikwo LGA Secretariat for the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Barr Sunday Nwankwo, who was being inaugurated for a second term as Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area. Chief Nwankwo personally called to invite him, though he could sense a hint of doubt in his voice regarding whether he would actually show up.
Despite any political implications, Nwoba made the decision to attend, emphasizing that his purpose was to identify with an old friend, not to make any political statement. He mentioned that his long-standing friendship with Chief Nwankwo is what mattered most, not the fact that the latter belongs to the APC. “It’s not my business,” Nwoba wrote, clarifying that his visit was solely to support a friend.
He arrived at the venue, spent about 30 minutes, and took the opportunity to congratulate Chief Nwankwo in person. During his brief stay, Nwoba exchanged pleasantries with several attendees, including the former deputy governor and the minister of culture and tourism. However, before the event officially began, he quietly made his way out and headed back to Awka.
Interestingly, Nwoba noted that many were surprised to see him there, which fueled speculation. A friend later forwarded him photos captured during the event, showing him in conversation with some prominent figures. To avoid any rumors, Nwoba decided to share the photos himself, before others might use them to falsely claim that he has joined the APC.
Nwoba concluded by acknowledging that people will always talk, and it doesn’t cost them anything to speculate. But for the record, his attendance was purely out of friendship, and nothing more.
Read his statement below:
Chairman of Ikwo LGA, Chief Barr Sunday Nwankwo called in to tell me of his swearing into office for the second time as Chairman of my LGA today, and would like me to attend it. I knew he was saying it with doubt that I would come. The event was inside the Ikwo LGA secretariat. I attended it. It’s been long time me and him have been pals. His being in APC doesn’t concern me. It’s not my business. I went to identify with a friend and that’s all. I spent 30 minutes and left before the event started after congratulating him.
Many were surprised to see me around. I greeted people and left for Awka. Someone captured these pictures of me exchanging pleasantries with the former deputy governor and minister of culture and tourism. He forwarded them to me so I post them myself before it starts circulating that I have joined APC. It doesn’t cost people anything to say so.
