His name is Emeka Nwonyi. He’s from Ezzama community of Ezza South LGA, Ebonyi State. He joined the Nigerian Police Force in 1994 as an ASP. He graduated from the Nnandi Azikiwe University, Awka where he bagged a B.Sc in Psychology. He bagged a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Management from the Imo State University. He got a Master’s Degree on Business Administration from the Imo State University. He got a second Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. He got his third Master’s Degree in Philosophy from the same institution. A Lawyer, Emeka Nwonyi bagged a Ph.D in Applied Psychology from the Olabisi Onabanjo University. He is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Local Government and Public Administration in Nigeria. A Chartered Fellow of the Economic Institute of Nigeria. A Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Human Rights and Gender Equality. Dr Emeka Nwonyi also acquired other proficiency certificates from Lisbon, Portugal, United Kingdom, South Africa, Italy and the United States of America.
In 2004, Dr Emeka Nwonyi was appointed head of the EFCC in the South South Zone, Portharcourt. He’s among the 12 men who founded the EFCC and headed many tactical units of the anti graft agency. He later founded the South East Zonal office of the EFCC in Enugu and ran it to a full blown institution. He left the EFCC in 2008 and was appointed Comptroller of the Calabar Seaport. In 2018, Dr Emeka Nwonyi was promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police. H
e’s currently heading the Force’s X-Squad annex in Lagos. Dr Emeka Nwonyi was yesterday promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police. Dr Emeka Nwonyi is the elder brother of the officer in charge of the Military Police at the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, Colonel Charles Nwonyi. DCP Emeka Nwonyi, Ph.D is happily married with children among whom is his first son, Dr Kelechi Nwonyi.
