The post is about the need for the newly elected Governor of Enugu state, Peter Mbah, to break away from the old politicians and work for the people, invest in infrastructure development, and make reconciliatory moves to heal the state.
The post is written by Uche Nworah, Ph.D, who spent a week in Enugu state and interacted with locals in various settings such as bars, streets, motor parks, and food joints. He notes that there is a general feeling among the people that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which has been in power in the state since 1999, has not done much in terms of infrastructural development. The outgoing administration is singled out as the least performing since the beginning of the fourth republic.

Uche Nworah argues that Enugu state was already developed, having been the former capital of Eastern Nigeria, and that post-1999 Governors in the state have not done much to improve the infrastructure. However, he acknowledges the efforts of former Governor Sullivan Chime.
The article congratulates the Governor-elect, Peter Mbah, on his victory and emphasizes the importance of his mandate to improve the state. The author urges him to break away from old politicians in the state who have turned enemies of the people and to work for the people by investing in infrastructural development that will distinguish Enugu state as the former capital of Eastern Nigeria.
Finally, the Uche Nworah suggests that the Governor-elect should partner with his brother South Eastern governors in the area of security, rail development, and towards building a sustainable homeland for Ndigbo, the Igbo-speaking people of Nigeria.
Overall, the post highlights the expectations of the people of Enugu State from their newly-elected Governor, and provides suggestions on how the Governor-elect can fulfill his mandate and work towards developing the state.

I have spent this week in Enugu state working on a project for my organization. I have interacted with the locals at bars, on the streets, motor parks and food joints. There is a sense from the people that the political party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which has been in power in the state since 1999 has not done much in the state. They point to the outgoing administration as probably the least performing since the beginning of the fourth republic.
The people argue that Enugu state was already developed, being the former capital of Eastern Nigeria, and that post- 1999 Governors in the state have not done much in the area of infrastructural development. They single out a former Governor (Sullivan Chime) and praise him for his little efforts.
I think I can call myself an Enugu boy too. I know Enugu state quite well having attended secondary school, College of Immaculate Conception (CIC), Enugu. I also attended I.M.T Enugu before graduating from the University of Uyo. I later attended graduate school at University of Nigeria – UNN (Enugu Campus) for my MBA.
While extending congratulations to the Governor -elect, Peter Mbah, it’s also important that he should be reminded of the sacred mandate he is carrying. The expectations are high obviously, so he should attempt from day one to break away from any apron strings still tying him to some of the old politicians in the state, that have now turned enemies of the people.
Peter Mbah should forge his own path and work for the people. His election came at a huge cost and created so much division among Ndi Enugu. Social media kept Nigerians entertained with the antics of the various political party supporters who camped at INEC office since the day of the election waiting for the results to be declared. They brought music, slaughtered cows and cooked taunting each other in the process. It generated into a propaganda fight between Nkanu and Nsukka people, where the two front liners in the gubernatorial election come from.
The Governor -elect having now been declared should heal the state. He should make reconciliatory moves and not attempt to victimize anyone. His government should invest in infrastructural projects that will distinguish Enugu state as the former capital of Eastern Nigeria. Finally, with his private sector experience, he should partner with his brother South Eastern governors in the area of security, rail development towards building a sustainable homeland for Ndigbo.
