Praise Singing in Politics: A Harmful Precedent for Children's Future Involvement in Politics.

The post describes an incident where the Nwoba chika Nwoba was greeted with chants of “onwe weight” by children in their village, which refers to a political parlance that glorifies politicians based on their physical size or perceived political clout. Chika Nwoba criticizes the use of such language, especially around children, as it encourages a culture of praise-singing and diminishes the importance of evaluating political candidates based on their actual abilities and qualifications.

Nwoba chika Nwoba suggests that the use of such language has contributed to the degradation of political discourse and the inability of voters to separate competent candidates from those who are not qualified. He also highlights the importance of educating children on the importance of focusing on knowledge-based information when evaluating political candidates rather than resorting to praise-singing and empty rhetoric.

In conclusion, the author advocates for a change in political discourse where candidates are evaluated based on their abilities and not on their physical appearance or political clout. They emphasize the need to educate children on the importance of critical thinking and knowledge-based information when evaluating political candidates to foster a culture of political accountability and competence.

He Wrote:

I travelled home on Friday ahead of the Saturday’s polls and the children around our neighbourhood in the village started shouting at me, “onwe weight!!! Chika nwe weight”. I didn’t know if I was the one they were jubilantly addressing as having weight to portray political sagacity or someone else. When I caught glimpse of their waving of hands towards me, I got to know they were referring to me.I wasn’t awed by that. I told the closest person to me in the vehicle that our people were setting a bad precedence of exposing our children who should be focused on education and knowledge-based information to politics. From where did I get the weight they were chanting I had? That possibly might be the political parlance they regularly hear at home.”Onwe weight” chant is not conducive for children to imbibe. That’s praise singing. The people singing it today acquired it from the spoilt political elements in their own days of yore. Today, nobody cares to assess the capacity or otherwise of an elective political office seeker, but to embellish such a person with the chants of “onwe weight”, “who say man no dey” and “o bu member n’ezie”. These pieces of destructive political parlance have contributed in disfiguring political assessment of prospective players and separating grains from the chaffs.I finally got to them and put them aright. This is because, I can’t imagine any of my children as God may give me chanting that at a politician, not even at myself in the future. There’s division of labour. Those spoilt already should be left with it since a broken bottle can hardly be soldered
