Ivo is a local government area in Ebonyi State with two principal towns: Ishiagu and Akaeze. Recently, crisis broke in one of the autonomous communities under Akaeze leading to the loss of human lives by yet-to-be known individuals. According to reports, a man was killed and a person accused of doing so was waylaided and murdered in cold blood without laying proof of him being the rightful suspect. The purported killer was identified as coming from Amakpu Kindred of Mgbede village. Rather than letting the matter lie as the purported killer had been set ablaze without any concrete evidence nor handing the suspect to police for proper investigation, the men on the misguided revenge extended the onslaught to all the members of the Amakpu Kindred, already destroying about 80 houses, sacking them from the village and setting their property on harm’s way.

Since this incident started, the village in Mgbede community has been a theatre of the absurd as the onslaught is gravitating towards those who’re not even from the Amakpu Kindred. The palpable fear is that the onslaught on Amakpu people is extending to every other person in the village as it’s suspected that the crisis is being manured by certain political figures who’re associates of the man that was said to have been killed. Information has it that the Border, Peace & Conflict Resolution Office in Abakaliki tried wading into the matter but the suspected eggheads in connection with the escalation of the crisis have refused to appear before the office for investigation into how or not they’re connected with it, using their political contacts to forestall the effort at peace keeping.

Members of the Amakpu Kindred who’re on the run for a long time now are calling on the Ebonyi State Government to come to their rescue as they have no any other option left than to resort to self-help.
They are pleading with Gov. Nwifuru to come to their rescue and investigate what is really going on in Mgbede.
