All roads led to the Cirenes Hotel in Abakaliki the capital of Ebonyi State, venue for the membership induction ceremony of the Ebonyi Prestigious Club. The event which took place on the 4th of January, 2025 saw the members drawn from different works of life thronging the place. The event also provided for the swearing in of the members of the working committee ably led by the president of the club, Chief Barr Moses Ugboh, PhD.
The event which started around evening of the date featured welcome address delivered by the founder and caretaker president of the club, Sir Chika Nwoba, KSC. He welcomed members and other guests, offering a brief description of the club. He used the opportunity to clear the rumour that made the grounds of the club’s possible snowballing into a political pressure group. “I’m, on behalf of all members and the executive committee welcoming everyone in this hall, and thank you for making out time to honour us. This club, Ebonyi Prestigious Club I’m announcing has nothing to do with politics. It’s clearly a social club with a clear target of contributing in a big way to the development of humanity and society in Ebonyi. Its membership is limited to people of good reputation from Ebonyi. We’re a club that’s poised to making impacts and build ourselves into enviable degrees, using our collective resources to help mankind and society. Therefore, we’re using this opportunity to dispel the rumour that we’re a political group targeting 2027. Finally, feel free in our midst and accept whatever we have got to entertain you with”, Sir Nwoba concluded.
The oath of membership was administered by a member of the club, Barr Ofobuike Otubo, Calabar based legal icon. The chairman of the occasion who’s also a member, Chief Alex Nwuruku welcomed everyone, praying that the club grew from strength to strength, in leaps and in bounds. A keynote lecture was delivered by Dr Moses Ugboh. He urged the 65 members club to imbibe the virtues of unity, commonality and cheerfulness which according to him were the pillars on which the club stood. Later at the event, the newly elected executive committee members were inaugurated amid pledge to deliver good governance to the club and its prospective members. The executive committee spoke through the president, Barr Chief Moses Ugboh, assuring that the purpose of creating the club would be made manifest by the committee within possible timeframe. Also inaugurated were the vice president, Comrade Onyebuchi Eze who happens to be the serving National Youths Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Dr Onyechi Nwankwo as treasurer, secretary, Dr Hillary Nweli, financial secretary, Dr Williams Nwekpa, publicity secretary, Edward Nnachi who’s a Punch Newspaper correspondent in Abakaliki, legal adviser, Prince Ofobuike Otubo, provost, Comrade Ikechukwu Agbo, assistant secretary, Chukwudi Utulo among others.
Highlights of the event included music performance, induction, swearing in and lavish entertainment.
