NUMBER 2

NUMBER 3
(3bi)
In oscillatory motion, a couple is a pair of equal and opposite forces acting on different sides of a pivot or axis. These forces do not move the body forward but cause it to rotate or twist.
(3bii)
Examples of a couple in everyday life:
-
Screwdriver – When turning a screwdriver to tighten or loosen a screw, the force on the handle and the reaction at the screw head form a couple that makes the screw rotate.
-
Steering wheel – When you turn a steering wheel, equal and opposite forces are applied at different points on the wheel. This couple makes the vehicle’s wheels turn, changing its direction.
