IPOB/ASARI DOKUBO: WHAT CHANGED?
I don’t think I have any good reason to introduce to us what the Biafra struggle (IPOB) is all about because it had become a household news not just in Nigeria but also in the Diaspora but for interest of those who could be given birth to after this day or assuming some are not very familiar with the word “IPOB”; it is a secessionist group in the South Eastern Nigeria predominantly the Ndigbo.
Before I proceed I would like us to read through the words of ASARI DOKUBO as published by *”The Cable News”* on March 14th 2021 and his recent words which is still setting the internet agog on same subject matter especially since the emergence of Mr. Peter Obi as the presidential candidate of the Labor party and his subsequent petition challenging the electoral process which produced Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner. I want us to patiently read through and possibly share with us if you have any idea to what really changed that made Dokubo began to antagonize the system he was spearheading in the recent past.
His exact words on 14th March, 2021 as published by The Cable News.
*”We as people have resolved that as Biafrans, it’s time for us to take our destiny in our hands and bring freedom to ourselves, our children and the generation of Biafrans yet unborn. I hesitated a little but I thank God that it’s time for us to do our duty and our services to the motherland, I have accepted this role. I have dedicated my life hundred percent to play this role. My first act today in taking this position is to name those who would be on the driver’s seat to navigate through this period of tempest, this period of uncertainty with me, (he mentioned their names and the role assigned to each). My brothers and sisters, the four of us will kick start the process, others will come on board.
We want volunteers who are committed, we want volunteers because there is nothing anymore. We are the people who have volunteered to salvage ourselves and the rest of us. I also call on other Biafrans in the various province of the Biafra nations, in Aba, Abakiliki, Anang, Awka, Calabar, Degema, Eket, Enugu, Nsuka, Ogoja, Oji River, Okigwe, Onitsha, Opobo, Orlu, Owerri, Port Harcourt, Umuahia, Uyo and Yenegoa province. We are going to proceed to set up provincial structures of government starting with provincial assemblies and provincial governance and administrators. Nobody can stop us. Nobody can blockade us as they did in the first war. We’re not going to fight any war with anybody, we’re walking to freedom”*
Now, my question begging for answers has been, what changed Alhaji Asari Dokubo? What happened? Who can tell us what transpired to had led to the recent unguarded utterances of Mr. Dokubo which was so carelessly careless?
Asari Dokubo made speech recently which has sparked lots of reactions as he indeed denigrated ndigbo. His words are not something that should have swept under the carpet had it been Nigeria is like other sane clime of the world. For him to say that he would have continued selling the igbos like his father did in a viral video and up till this moment, nothing has been done about it by the system that be is not funny at all and clear indication that Igbo-phobia is spreading like a wild fire. He confessed in his involvement to selling Nnamdi Kanu out to the military before the invasion at his home in Abia state which led to the lost of several lives.
As I watched the video, he emphasized on Chukwu-okike-abiama as part of his grievances as he claimed that Ndigbo could impose their own mother’s tongue on other Biafrans if achieved, could this be his fear and reason for unnecessary actions or is there any other reason to had made him suddenly turned against a system he initially championed? Was he thinking of monetizing the Biafra struggle and didn’t materialize?
What really happened to or changed Asari Dokubo?
What are your thoughts on this my people?
