A Profile of Obinna Udenwe with Nwoba Chika Nwoba
Obinna Udenwe is the winner of the 2021 Chinua Achebe Prize for Literature with his book, “Colours of Hatred.” He became second runner-up in the 2021 Nigerian Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) Literary Award series with the same book.
In 2015, the now 36 years old Obinna Udenwe won the Association of Nigerian Authors Prize for Prose Fiction with his book, “Satans and Shaitans.” In 2014, Ebonyi State Government recognised him as a Literary Icon at an event organized in the Government House by the then governor.
Author of Satans and Shaitans, Holy Sex, Colours of Hatred, A Widow Who Died with a Flower in Her Mouth, Wenitem & Her Friends, Obinna’s short stories won the Pairie Schooner-Glenna Luschei Prize in 2020 among other awards & prizes he has to his credit locally and internationally for literary excellence, including publishing of his short stories in Munyori Literary Journal, Expound Magazine, African Roar, Brittle Papers, Fiction 365 among others. In 2016, he won the inaugural edition of The Short Story is Dead in South Africa. He’s a member of the Association of Nigerian Authors and founder of the Abakaliki Elite Book Club as well as member of the Abakaliki Literary Society.
Obinna is an Engineer by profession and comes from Abakaliki LGA of Ebonyi State. He’s of the Izzi stock in Ebonyi State, married with children and lives in Abakaliki.
