In today’s session of profile, we shall be talking about a town in Ikwo local government area of Ebonyi State called “Alike”. Alike is one of the largest communities in Ebonyi State before the creation of autonomous communities. However, the autonomous community creation has not changed the fact that it’s a populous community of great men and women nor changed any part of it from identifying as Alike.
Alike has over 25 villages. The Enyibichiri political ward of Alike has 26 polling units, the largest in Ebonyi State, confirming that Alike Town is populous.
Alike has within 1999 till date produced political figures including the former governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Martin Elechi; immediate past deputy governor of Ebonyi State, Barr Dr Kelechi Igwe; former Minister & Nigerian Ambassador to Mexico, Chief Lawrence Nwuruku; a two term House of Representatives member, Hon. Francis Elem, and the current chairman of Ikwo LGA, Barr Sunday Nwankwo among others.

Alike hosts the Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Alike-Ikwo. It also hosts multi million dollars mining site managed by the Royal Salt Company from India. The community has two big markets attracting buyers and sellers from different parts of the South East. It has a police station, hospitals and hosts the Assemblies of God Ikwo District Headquarters as well as the Ikwo Diocese of Anglican Church Bishop’s Court and many more. Alike produces rice, yam and cassava in commercial quantities. It’s located 15 kilometers away from the state capital, Abakaliki.
