The appeal court sitting in Enugu has sacked the national secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Anyanwu in favour of the former Youths Leader of the party, Hon. SKD Udeokoye. The court reversed the judgement of a federal high court reinstating Anyanwu after contesting the gubernatorial election in Imo State as candidate of the PDP.
Udeokoye from Awgu local government area of Enugu State and former member of the Enugu State House of Assembly is expected to be sworn in by the chairman of the party, Iliya Damagun pending the outcome of a possible judgment of the Supreme Court should Mr Anyanwu decide the challenge the judgement of the appellate court ousting him.
The leader of the coalition of opposition political parties in Nigeria and member representing Ideato North and South of Imo State at the House of Representatives, Hon. Barr Ikenga Ugochinyere Imo has hailed the judgement ousting Anyanwu, calling it a new dawn for the People’s Democratic Party in Nigeria, expressing the optimism that same judicial treatment awaited the caretaker national chairman of the party, Damagun whom he said coalesced with Anyanwu to cede the party to the APC for selfish fiscal interest.
Recall that the resignation of the former national chairman of the party, Sen. Dr Iyorcha Ayu threw up Damagun as caretaker national chairman, but ever since his enthronement, the party has been sinking and getting weakened, a development some stakeholders of the party accused on the chairman, saying that he is in alliance with the ruling All Progressives Congress to sink the party and enthrone one party system in the country.
