The story of Chief Christian Asaga Nwali, forty years old seven stars architect is the one of grass to grace as he was a commercial motorcyclist in the city of Awka when he was studying Architecture at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Determined to be great in life, he juxtaposed the engagements and still came out of the university with very good grades. He didn’t stop there. He pursued his postgraduate programmes and today, 21st of October, 2024, he bagged a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Architecture from the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC). He wowed his supervisors during the defense of his thesis such that they liked him to avail himself to the classroom, drawing breath from his numerous achievements at young age and success in the defense of his profession, Architecture! Nobody knew he could still have the time for postgraduate programmes going by the heavy workloads before him. So, it’s a thing of surprise that he got a PhD not minding the difficulty surrounding its acquisition in Nigeria.
Dr Christian Asaga among the outputs of his dedication to self development has to his credit the Exclusive Serene, a seven star hotel at Wuye, Abuja. The Cirenes hotel in the city of Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, and Exclusive Serene hotel in the city of Enugu, estates, shopping complexes, importation of technological and building wares from China and other parts of the world with the finest record of technological expertise, among other projects that are not known to this author. It’ll be time-exhausting, however, to start listing many of the tertiary projects that he has handled both for the Ebonyi State Government past and present, other state governments, corporate organizations and prominent individuals in the society. One of his many landmark projects is the popular Barcelona Hotel located at the Blantyre Street, Abuja. This hotel rated as the fifth best in the whole of Abuja exposed his professional ingenuity to the Nigeria’s elite community who have been inundating him with a traffic of contracts and consultancy services. His designs are sought after by property developers even beyond Nigeria. His hotels serve as prototypes of the hotels some property developers want to erect, reason many hotels built after his own at different places like Abakaliki, Enugu, Portharcourt, Lagos, Asaba, Abuja and Awka take after his structural designs. One nice thing about this is that these design imitators always come to him to profess their longing for his architectural masterpieces. He has never turned any down as he believes that the world is spacious enough to accommodate everyone, and that his natural gift is meant for humankind and society in general. A real estate mogul, Dr Asaga has been using his wealth to raise many young engineering and architectural graduates from different axes of the society moreover Ikwo local government area of Ebonyi state where he hails. He has blessed many in need with his wealth, granting scholarships and bursaries to indigent students from different places in Nigeria as much as he’s a notable job creator for Nigerians through his many projects and businesses. His commitment to giving back to his immediate society has pushed him to commit a huge chunk of his hard-earned resources to build a market for his village, a hall for the women folk of his village and extension of hand of fellowship of community service to neighboring communities and his own, Ekpelu. The account of his philanthropy can’t be offered at a clean sweep as he has done what nobody in his local government area has ever attempted to do in the interest of the general public.
