OopsThe Abakaliki division of the federal high court yesterday, Monday the eleventh day of November, 2024 cancelled the ward, local government and state congresses conducted by a faction of the party loyal to the suspended national vice chairman of the party in southeast, Chief Ali Odefa.

According to Hon. Justice Hillary Oshoma, the purported congresses were conducted in flagrant disobedience to a subsisting order of the same court which dissolved the hitherto caretaker committee of the party in Ebonyi State and putting on hold planned congresses of the party in Ebonyi state pending the determination of the substantive suit.

The judgement of the federal high court dissuaded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), national working committee of the People’s Democratic Party and other relevant agencies of government and PDP from recognizing the officials that emerged at the congresses both at the ward, local government and state levels.

Recall that the suspended national vice chairman of the party in southeast, Odefa together with the former governor of Ebonyi state, Dr Sam Egwu, member of the House of Representatives representing Afikpo/Edda, Barr Idu Igariwe and others organized the purported congresses to spite the other group led by a business mogul and the party’s governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, High Chief Ifeanyi Odii in whose favour the order by the federal high court stopping the congresses went.

Reacting to the judgement, the immediate past spokesman of the party in Ebonyi, Chika Nwoba stated that the judgement of the court came at a time the kidney of the party was under attack, urging members to be still and brace up to the reality that was rebuilding the party and making sure that it stood on its feet once again as the 2027 elections approached. He congratulated members of the party for getting the party back to usual form, accusing the Ebonyi government as being the unseen hand behind the crisis the party was enmeshed in. Nwoba urged the other group to sheathe their swords and come together to put the party in winning ways once again.
