The 2024 WAEC Syllabus for Civic Education is available below. Please note that this syllabus applies to both internal and external candidates

Preamble

This syllabus assesses the candidate’s understanding of:
  • Citizenship importance
  • Government structure, functions, and responsibilities
  • Emerging societal issues
  • Citizen rights, duties, and obligations
  • Democratic values and their upholding

Examination Scheme

The examination consists of two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2, combined into a single paper taken at one sitting.
Paper 1 (40 marks)
  • 1-hour multiple-choice test
  • 50 questions drawn from the entire syllabus
Paper 2 (60 marks)
  • 2-hour essay-type test
  • Three sections: A, B, and C
  • Each section contains three questions
  • Candidates must answer four questions, choosing at least one from each section
