The following are five communities with most rural road network in Anambra State. They include:
1. Neni: This is a community in Anaocha LGA of Anambra State. It’s the community of the late oil magnate, Tonimas. Before he died in 2020, he tarred all the roads in all the villages of Neni. The community wears a glamourous road infrastructure outlook. It’s the number one community with solid and many roads constructed by an individual. A ride around the community is a pleasure better to be felt and seen than told. Chief Tony Enukeme was an oil magnate whose influence in the sector was and still being felt even as he’s no longer alive.
He built an estate in the community and gave it out to Hausa people in appreciation of the economic triumph he got in the Northern part of Nigeria in his youth. The estate is still functioning and in use by the Hausa natives living in different parts of Anambra State.
2. Alor:
This is the second community in Anambra State with great road network. Its road connectivity only rivals that of Neni.
These roads were constructed by the former Governor of Anambra State, Sen. Dr Chris Ngige during his time as Governor of Anambra State. Alor is in Idemmili North LGA of Anambra State. The level of road connectivity there is a magic to behold. It’s the talk of the entire state till today.
He expanded the road construction spree during his time as Senator representing Anambra Central zone between 2011-2015. He later became Minister of Labour and Employment between 2015 and 2023.
3. Agulu: Agulu is one of the largest communities in Anambra State. It’s located at Anaocha LGA of Anambra State. It has 21 villages. It comes third on the list of communities with large road network in the state.
These roads were attracted by the former Governor of the state, Peter Obi. He also constructed a long span of bridge on the lake of Agulu. During his reign as Governor of Anambra State, Obi took count of the roads in the entire Agulu and contracted their construction out simultaneously.
Now, Agulu has become a highly motorable terrain and ranks third in the count of communities with access roads in the state of Anambra.
4. Awka Etiti: This is a community in Idemmili clan of Anambra State. It’s one of the communities in the South producing billionaires. The road network in the community came through community effort. Rich natives constructed a better number of the roads. It’s said that for one to qualify for Ozo titleship in the community, one must show proof of the road one has constructed in the community. Through this measure, the community was able to tar its roads in large quantity.
5. Oba: A community in Idemmili clan of Anambra State, Oba ranks fifth on the list of communities with access roads in Anambra State. It’s a town that parades many billionaires one of whom is Obinna Iyiegbu known as Obi Cubana and a celebrity witch doctor, Chidozie Nwangwu popularly known as Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki.
Been a close community to Onitsha, Oba has good road network made possible through community effort.
6. Agulueri: Agulueri is an ancestral community in Anambra East LGA of Anambra State. The origin of the Igbo race is traced to this community. The immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano is from here. As Governor of Anambra State, he constructed a lot of roads in the community which makes it exceedingly motorable.
7. Enugwu-Ukwu: This community is one of the communities that parade multi billionaires predating this day. It prides in producing business moguls.
Roads here came through individual contributions. The community produced the immediate past House of Representatives member representing Anaocha/Dunukofia/ Njikoka federal constituency, Chief Dozie Nwankwo as well as the immediate past Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Nkem Okeke.
8. Agukwu Nri: This small community like Agulueri is said to be ancestral to Igboland. Located in Anaocha LGA, roads here are clean and highly motorable. The roads came through community effort and political figures such as Sen. Dr Uche Ekwunife who represented Anambra Central zone.
9. Ukpo: This community parades the richest man in Igboland, Engr Arthur Eze who singlehandly constructed most of the roads in the community. Ukpo has today become ninth most networked community in terms of access roads.
10. Oko: This is a community located at Orumba North LGA of Anambra State. It’s the host of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko and the community of a former Vice President of Nigeria, Dr Alex Ekwueme. The community has numerous access roads to the credit of government and community effort.
In summary, Anambra State is the state with highest rural road networks in the entire southern Nigeria. A visit will convince one that indeed, Anambra State is the light of the nation.
